When a team starts off a season 1-6, it's easy to give up and start thinking about the next season, especially when the team is in one of the best conferences in the country.

Nevertheless, the women's basketball team didn't give up and has a chance to do something no team has done since 1991 - knock off Old Dominion (17-1, 26-4) in the CAA Tournament, who is going for its 17th straight CAA Title. If there's one thing that this women's basketball team has over most teams in the conference, it's resiliency.

A 60-50 loss to Dayton at home gave Drexel (18-11, 13-5) a season-high four-game losing streak. The Lady Dragons responded by winning nine straight games before losing a heartbreaker at Towson in overtime, 57-52.

That game was the first of three consecutive losses, all which were by five points or less. But once again, they responded in fashion, finishing out the season 8-2.

No. 4 Drexel faces the winner of the game between No. 5 Towson and No. 12 Hofstra. If Drexel wins its quarterfinal matchup, it will have a date with No. 1 ODU, barring some monumental collapse by the Monarchs.

Over the past 16 years, Drexel was the closest team to beat ODU in the CAA Tournament. After winning against the Monarchs 71-68 March 6 at the DAC, the Dragons faced them in the 2005 CAA Semifinals, losing a thriller 64-63. The Dragons still have to win their quarterfinal matchup most likely against Towson. After losing by five in overtime to the No. 5 Tigers, Drexel won 68-63 on its home court.

First Team All-CAA member Gabriela Marginean, arguably one of the best players in Drexel women's basketball history, is having a tremendous year, averaging 19.2 ppg and 6.9 rpg. She is leading the team in points, rebounds, steals and free throw percentage. She also became the first sophomore in Drexel history to score 1,000 points and matched ODU's Clarisse Machanguana as the fastest player in CAA history to accomplish that feat. Two other players that will have a big impact in the tournament are Narissa Suber and Jasmina Rosseel, a freshman who doesn't even start.
