Drexel wrestlers return to NCAA Championships

Ryan Hluschak (above) and Steve Mytych each advanced to the national championships in St.Louis. Both wrestlers had a strong showing in the CAA Championships. Hluschak finished second, while Mytych finished third and earned a wildcard birth in the championships.

Wrestlers Ryan Hluschak and Steve Mytych are headed to the National Championships in St. Louis.

Hluschak finished in second at 157 pounds at the CAA Championships, while Mytych placed third at 125 pounds and earned a wildcard selection for the NCAAs.

Each will be making his third appearance in the National Championships.

Overall, Drexel finished in fifth place in the conference. Hofstra claimed the team title.

Hluschak lost his title match 8-7 to Jonny Bonilla-Bowman of Hofstra and Mytych lost to Dave Tomasette in the semi-finals but rebounded to win his third place match.

Mytych was one of four wildcards selected from the CAA.

The top two finishers in each of the 10 weight classes earned automatic bids.
