Drexel University's Student Life Banquet, which honors Drexel students' contributions to the University and the community, will be held May 21 in Behrakis Grand Hall.
Student Life and the Undergraduate Student Government Association (USGA) are co-sponsoring this year's Student Life banquet, parts of which are being changed from previous years.
Student Life and USGA are "trying to make [the banquet] a bigger Drexel tradition this year," Kristen Smith, a pre-junior majoring in biomedical engineering and the USGA Government Operations assembly chair & personnel director, said.
Previously, the banquet was not particularly well known, and there was "not a really big push on campus" for the event, according to Smith.
One change to the banquet's organization is the increased coordination between USGA and Student Life, according to Jessica Grace, assistant director of the Office of Campus Activities. Grace said she hopes that the increased coordination will help make the banquet more consistent from year to year.
"The past [banquet planning] has been very different according to who is coordinating it," Grace said. "Hopefully this new standard will stick."
Planning for the banquet started fairly late last year, according to Smith. The committees have started planning earlier this year for the event, in hopes that this will increase attention for the event.
Part of the advanced planning is advertising, which includes a sign in the Creese student Center, according to Smith. Other advertising techniques being employed include flyers, mentions in the Drexel Daily Digest and advertising on Facebook.
Nomination cards also will be sent to faculty members, Grace said.
Another change to the program will be the addition of new awards. One of the new awards will be in memory of Jacquelyn West-Ford, former senior associate dean of students, who had helped organize the event in the past. West-Ford died Sept. 6, 2007.
