Tramayne Hawthorne (above) puts up a floater in Drexel's 62-60 win over Delaware at the Bob Carpenter Center Feb. 16. The Dragons almost blew a 10-point second half lead but made key shots in crunch time to earn the victory.

Randy Oveneke picked a great time to make his only basket of the game.

Oveneke hit a shot with about one minute remaining to give Drexel the lead, but Delaware's Herb Courtney still had a chance to win it.

But Courtney missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer, giving Drexel a 62-60 win at the Bob Carpenter Center Feb. 16.

Frank Elegar continued to dominate his CAA rival. He finished the game with 22 points and 11 rebounds, giving him 55 points and 28 rebounds over two games against the Blue Hens this season. He also picked up his ninth double-double of the season.

"Our confidence is building up again," Elegar said. "You can thank Old Dominion for that one. After we lost a tough double-overtime game, we found ourselves in the same position. We just said, 'We're not losing.'"

In its previous game against ODU, the men's basketball team gave up a last-second 3-pointer and eventually lost in double overtime. Luckily for Elegar and the Dragons, they were able to avoid déjà vu.

Scott Rodgers had one of his best games of the year, scoring 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 2-of-2 from the 3-point line.

"We needed a leader all year and I guess [Rodgers] said, 'It's my time,'" Drexel head coach Bruiser Flint said.

The scoring attack was balanced for the Blue Hens as five players scored in double digits. Courtney had team-highs of 13 points and nine rebounds to lead Delaware.

Drexel shot 52.1 percent from the field for the game and a scorching 71.4 percent from the 3-point line.

Delaware struggled, hitting just 39.6 percent of its field goals, while making just 4-of-18 3-pointers.

For the second straight game, the Dragons almost lost despite having a 10-point second-half lead.

For now, it seems that the men's basketball team is playing is playing with a new intensity that has not been displayed since the beginning of the season.
