Man found shot at 35th and Haverford streets
Ronald Saunders, 20, was found shot to death Feb. 21 on 35th and Haverford streets, according to Philadelphia Police and media reports. The man was found by patrol officers at 1:15 a.m. and declared dead by medics at 1:30 a.m. Police have no suspects in the case, according to the Philadelphia Police Homicide Unit. Police declined to identify the victim; however, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported his name.
The crime occurred outside the Drexel University Public Safety Patrol Zone, according to a Drexel official. The homicide was one of six people gunned down in Philadelphia over an eight-hour period on Feb. 21.
Police shoot two men in separate incidents
A SEPTA Police officer shot and wounded a 23-year-old man after he pointed a gun at two officers, the Philadelphia Daily News reported Feb. 21. The incident began when officers removed a man from the Broad Street line for smoking and riding between cars. As the police questioned him at Allegheny Avenue, he pulled out a gun. The shooting was one of two police-involved incidents in the city on Feb. 20.
Shortly before 8:30 p.m., an armed robbery suspect fired at nine city police officers at 53th and Ludlow streets. The officer returned fire, wounding the suspect, the Daily News reported.
The West Philadelphia shooting started when two suspects allegedly tried to force a rider on the Market Street El to come with them. The rider was shot in the back and several undercover police officers responded from the area.
Soccer announcement will come Feb. 28
Major League Soccer tentatively set Feb. 28 as the date to announce a possible professional soccer stadium in the Philadelphia region, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Feb. 21.
The site being evaluated is in the city of Chester in Delaware County, according to the report. Sources have told the Inquirer that the announcement is imminent. Philadelphia is the largest market where Major League Soccer does not have a team, the Inquirer report wrote.
