The Honda Civic Hybrid, though not the fastest car on the market, is extremely efficient, getting 40 mpg in the city and 45 mpg on the highway.

For the ultimate in fuel efficiency, a hybrid is the most popular option.

With a 110-horsepower engine, the Honda Civic Hybrid isn't made to be a quick car. The real benefit is its efficiency. The car gets 40 mpg in the city and 45 on the highway. The Civic Hybrid has many popular features such as alloy wheels, cruise control, power windows and a six-speaker audio system, and starts at $22,600.

For slightly more efficiency, the green status icon Toyota Prius is another solid choice.

With 48 mpg in the city, the Prius is a better option for the city driver and the base model is slightly less than the Civic at $21,100.

If you need a larger hybrid vehicle, check out the Chevy Malibu Hybrid, new for this year.
