"The MADKo concerts promotion team did an amazing job promoting and executing the show," according to Terry Tompkins, MAD Dragon President. "I was also very pleased that [MAD Dragon] was able to work with the Drexel media outlets, WKDU and DUTV." There is nothing that he would have changed.
The Takeover UK was first to go on stage. Signed with RykoDisc, which is partnered with MAD Dragon, the band is based in Pittsburgh.
Next was Andrew Lipke, who played "The Fire" and "Untitled Song #1" among others. A cover of The Beatles' "I'm Only Sleeping" was also performed by Lipke. Lipke learned to play the piano while living in South Africa at five years old and began to write songs after moving to America.
"[Lipke's] why I went," stated Nick Sofos, a freshman majoring in Business. "I had heard of him and Matt Duke when I was applying to Drexel."
The Swimmers performed after, with many songs off of their album to be released in March 2008. "St. Cecilia," "Heaven" and "Pocket full of Gold" were some of their songs. They also played a cover of Hall and Oates' "Rich Girl." According to the band, "It was outside what we normally do, but we enjoyed playing it."
This was a different type of venue for The Swimmers. "Normally we play over 21 venues and we're closer on stage," the band stated.
Hoots and Hellmouth then made a quick performance in front of the stage. "I loved the show. Hoots and Hellmouth were the best part." said Chelsea Murphy, a freshman majoring in Health Science.
Hoots and Hellmouth also played for the audience as they were entering Mandell Theater in the lobby.
Matt Duke came on next. He joked with the audience throughout his performance. Duke took off his jacket, hung it on his guitar strap and interacted with the crowd. "Love Buried" was one of the songs that he performed. In June, he will be releasing a new album.
The Redwalls were the last to perform. "Hangman," "Game of Love" and "Time Machine" were some of the songs they performed. Logan Baren, The Redwalls member, stated that they are "writing new material that will hopefully come out in June or July." They are currently touring in the Midwest and west coast, with stops including Salt Lake City, Utah, Portland, Oregon and Madison, Wisconsin.
Each year MAD Dragon will have a showcase Tompkins stated. There was a good turnout of people, "close to a sell out." Most of the people who attended the show were Drexel students; however there were almost 400 people that attended that paid to see the show.
All of the artists that are signed with MAD Dragon that performed are within close proximity to Philadelphia, with the exception of The Redwalls, who are from Chicago.
