Georgia State may have been nearly 800 miles from home, but it was the Drexel women's basketball team that was dialing long distance.

The Dragons (12-9, 7-3 CAA) hit nine threes, eight in the first half, as they established an early lead and never trailed in their easy 64-48 matinee victory over the Panthers (6-15, 3-7) Feb. 7.

"I was pleased with how we were ready to go from the start," Drexel head coach Denise Dillon said. "Our girls came out to play and set the tempo."

Narissa Suber led Drexel with 21 points and a career-high eight rebounds, while Gabriela Marginean had 17 points and Nicole Hester added 13 for the Dragons, who have won two straight and improved to 3-1 all-time against Georgia State.

Drexel started the off the game on an 8-0 run capped by a 3-pointer from Suber, who was four-of-eight from behind the arc.

"I just tried to keep moving and my teammates hit me," she said.

Dillon said she was very impressed with her all-time leading three-point shooter's effort.

"Narissa did a great job playing with such poise," Dillon said. "She's relaxed out there and does what she needs to do."

Georgia State, who did not make their first field goal until the 14:58 mark, got within seven after a 3-pointer by Brittany Hollins (12 points), but the Dragons countered with a 15-4 run sparked by threes from Suber and Marginean to go up 27-9 with 5:30 remaining.

Drexel's zone defense did a great job limiting the Panthers, who shot just 30.8 percent from the field in the first half.

The Dragons led by as many as 24 in the second half after a pair of Marginean free throws and shot 43.4 percent for the game.

They were a perfect nine-of-nine from the free throw stripe and committed only nine turnovers. Suber now has 285 career threes, adding to her all-time lead.

Hester, who was three-of-four from beyond the arc, filled up the stat sheet in other ways, adding three rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Marginean was named CAA Player of the Week after two 20-point performances last week.
