The student is in critical but stable condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, awaiting surgery for multiple fractures as of 7 p.m. Feb. 7, Drexel officials said.
"There was not found to be any traffic violation committed," SEPTA spokesman Gary Fairfax said.
Fairfax said only the Drexel student was injured and confirmed the bus was a LUCY Gold shuttle traveling west on Market Street.
A request for information about the bus driver's history was not returned as of this publication.
The accident occurred during one of the busier times on campus and a source familiar with the investigation said there were several witnesses who would be contacted by officials.
Drexel Public Safety was among the first responders, along with the Philadelphia Fire Department.
A Public Safety employee arrived on the scene to find the female victim injured but conscious.
"She [the victim] was lying in the street seriously injured," read an incident report provided by Drexel Public Safety.
From the time of the first report of the accident to Drexel's dispatch center, it took five minutes for Philadelphia Fire Department medics to arrive.
Additional resources from Drexel Public Safety including Fire and Life Safety and Victim Support Services were called to assist.
Several students witnessed the accident and officials said anyone experiencing trauma should contact the University Counseling Center.
Candace Wannamaker, director of victim support services at Drexel Public Safety, responded to the hospital after the accident and has been working with the victim's family throughout her hospitalization, according to James Katsaounis, executive director of communications for the division of Student Life and Administrative Services.
Wannamaker's office provides assistance to students who have been a victim of or a witness to traumatic events, according the Drexel Public Safety web site.
