This Valentine's Day, find the perfect expression of your feelings through the perfect mode of expression - the evergreen gift of chocolate. For the best chocolate in Philadelphia, visit one of these places below, and blow your valentine away with your excellent taste.
Naked Chocolate Café: This café is located at 1317 Walnut St., and offers everything from delicious hot chocolates to freshly-made chocolate candy. There is also a wide array of baked goods, such as cupcakes and "stuffed" cupcakes from which to choose.
Maron Chocolates: Opened in 1850, the chocolate shop was originally located on 107 S. 18th St., and has recently opened a second location at 1734 Chestnut St. The business will stay open late on Valentine's Day to offer delicious and romantic treats, like chocolate fondue for two.
Miel Patisserie: This shop, on 204 S. 17th St., offers handmade chocolates and gives customers the option to dine in or take out their treats. The company prides itself on its "sophisticated" chocolates, created fresh from a variety of ingredients, to satisfy a variety of palates, with flavors such as seal salt, cinnamon and honey (mielpastry.com).
Golosa: This Zagat-rated dessert shop on 806 S. Sixth St. offers all kinds of chocolate desserts, and is famous for its sinfully rich hot chocolate, created from 70 percent cacao. The shop offers Italian chocolates and American artisanal chocolates, as well as cakes, tarts, crème brulées, and other desserts.
Empyreal Chocolates: Located on 2313 Wallace St. in South Philadelphia, this chocolate shop offers "socially conscious" desserts and chocolates, made from Rainforest-Alliance certified cocoa and other ingredients. The chocolates are made in Belgian modes, and on European equipment, according to owners Jane and Greg Gallina. The chocolates and desserts are also sold at Tria, Mandoline, Chestnut Hill Coffee Co. in Germantown, and at 1601 Café.
Anthony's: This chocolate and coffee factory has two locations, one at 903 S. Ninth St. and at 915 S. Ninth St., and offers everything from coffee, to chocolate, to fresh cannoli. The original coffee shop was opened over 100 years ago in the Market, and has since expanded to new locations on South and ninth streets. The dessert menu includes traditional Italian delights, such as gelato and tiramisu, as well as yummy hot chocolate.
