I was at Borders with my roommates anticipating finding new music to trash on this newspaper. I found Raheem Devaughn's sophomore album, "Love Behind the Melody," in their new release shelf. I adored his previous LP, The Love Experience, so I decided to purchase his second album. I enjoyed every second "Love Behind the Melody" offered. This album was Neo-soul heaven to my ears. Raheem Devaughn delivers soulful melodies and invigorating lyrics this second LP.
This album has a number of talented producers including Dr. Dre's former protégé Scott Storch, KWAME, and Brian Cox. The instrumentals behind Devaughn's moving lyrics give "Love Behind the Melody" laid-back 1970 soul ambiance. Albeit from "Energy" being the only dance track of the album, this LP is stuffed with eccentricity.
Raheem Devaughn showed his appreciation for the opposite sex on the first single of the album, "Woman." Most hip-hop or R&B male artists rarely give women a positive spotlight in society. "Woman" depicts Devaughn as unique from the homogeneous urban artists.
The lyrics that Raheem Devaughn delivers touch the soul. One of my favorite songs on the album is "Mo Better." On this track, the self-proclaimed "R&B Hippie" touches on finding that special someone who intensifies every moment in his life. This track definitely bestows a Spinners or Marvin Gaye feel to the song. Another song that I adore on "Love Behind the Melody" is "Love Drug." Devaughn use various references of addiction and drug trafficking as a metaphor to express his love for his anonymous lover. In the chorus of "Love Drug," the "Neo-Soul Rockstar" says, "I'm Your Drug/ I can't kick/ You got me so addicted/ Cause you're my Drug."
"Love Behind the Melody" has exceptional guest star appearances - LaFace recording artist Big Boi, one half of hip-hop powerhouse Outcast, Geffen recording artist Floetry, and G.O.O.D. music recording artist Malik Yusef. This is definitely an awesome R&B album. This is an extraordinary addition to your R&B or "baby making" music collection. It is a hearty-serving of neo-soul.

This is the best article ever written. He manipulates the English language to poetic proportions. I want more Clifford...
