The women's basketball team closed out its non-conference schedule with its most convincing victory of the season.

Drexel (5-6) will enter conference play with a four game-winning streak after easily dispatching of Mount St. Mary's (3-10) 81-51 Jan. 3.

"In the beginning of the game, the starters set the tempo," Drexel head coach Denise Dillon said. "Then we were able to bring the subs in and there wasn't any drop off [in tempo]."

It was the Dragons' widest margin of victory this season. They defeated American by 25 on Dec. 31.

"Going into conference play it was definitely good for us to pull off a win," senior guard Stacy McCullough said.

Drexel shot a season-high 58.5 percent from the field and hit 14 3-pointers (11 in the second half), also a season-best.

"I think that just happens with understanding," Dillon said of her team's ability to shoot the ball so efficiently. "Now the girls are understanding where the shots are coming from, who's getting the looks and where they're getting the looks."

Over the last two games, the Dragons have combined for 25 threes. The team record for threes in a game was 18 in Drexel's five overtime victory against Northeastern Feb. 17, 2006.

All 11 players who dressed saw playing time and the bench combined for 37 points.

"It was nice to be able to put everybody out there," Dillon said. "Everybody contributed."

Gabriela Marginean led the Dragons with a game-high 17 points and season-high four steals while Jasmina Rosseel added 13 points and five rebounds. Nicole Hester had her second straight double-digit performance with 12 points.

Drexel jumped out to a 24-point lead at the half thanks in large part to its defensive pressure which allowed the Mountaineers to shoot just 20.8 percent from the field.

However, in the second half the Dragons began to catch fire from beyond the arc. Their first nine field goals of the half were 3-pointers as Drexel outscored American 27-10 over the first eight minutes, 15 seconds to take a 66-25 lead.

Brook Cornish tied a career high with four blocks while McCullough established a career high with four assists and four rebounds.

Rosseel came off the bench, entering at the 12:01 mark of the first half after missing the game against American due to a stomach virus. She made her presence felt early draining a three from the left wing.

Drexel had 25 total assists and outrebounded the Mountaineers 37-23.

Mount St. Mary's leads the all-time series 4-3.
