Elegar scored 16 points, all in the second half, becoming the 29th Dragon in team history to eclipse the 1,000 career point mark and Rodgers added a game-high 18 as Drexel (6-5) snapped its four-game losing skid with a 65-53 Dec. 22 victory over Bucknell (4-6).
Drexel had previously suffered defeats at the hands of George Mason, Creighton, Toledo and Temple- all by double digits.
"He's come a long way," Drexel head coach Bruiser Flint said of Elegar. "He's been a great example for us. This is what happens when you put the time in and you work hard.
Elegar, the Dragons leading scorer (13.1 ppg), came into the game needing just 13 points to join the exclusive club.
It did not look promising early on, as he was held scoreless in the first half, not attempting a single shot.
In the second half, however, Elegar was nothing short of perfect. He converted on all four of his field goal attempts, and was 8 for 8 from the charity stripe.
After hitting the second of a pair of free throws with 1:49 left in the game, Elegar became the 1,000-career-point fraternity's newest member. Last season, both Bashir Mason and Dominick Mejia accomplished the feat.
Michael Anderson is the all-time scoring leader in school history, collecting 2,208 points during his outstanding career.
Rodgers, who came in the game averaging just 4.3 ppg, gave the Dragons a much needed scoring boost from the get go.
"I thought Scott played a pretty good game," Flint said.
He sparked an early 20-8 run with a jumper and capped the burst with a 3-pointer from the corner, giving Drexel a 25-13 lead with 7:57 remaining.
Rodgers finished with 13 of his season-high 18 points in the first half.
The Dragons extended to a 19-point halftime advantage thanks in-large part to their outstanding defense.
