Dragons drop third straight game at Towson

The Towson Tigers were picked to finish dead last in the CAA and with a 1-3 record, they were on their way, but standing in their way was a team more primed for the CAA cellar.
The Dragons dropped their third straight game 86-77 at the Towson Center Jan. 12.
The games have been so dire of late for the Tigers (6-9, 2-3 CAA) that they did not know how to handle a double-digit lead down the stretch.
"We have not been in that position a lot so they were not sure how to win that way," Towson coach Pat Kennedy said.
The Dragons (8-9, 1-4 CAA) waited until they trailed 77-61 with two minutes to go before making a move. Drexel stormed to the tune of a 14-2 run over just 90 seconds to pull within four with 30 seconds left.
The run was fueled by C.C. Williams' inability to hit foul shots, and the Dragons capitalized on the other end. Williams was 1-5 from the line for the game.
Kennedy and the Tigers got wise to the Dragons' plan and got the ball in the hands of players that can shoot. Towson hit 7-8 free throws from that point on to seal the victory. "We've been hitting teams at a very difficult time like when we hit Old Dominion, they lost four of five, and they were changing their lineup," Kennedy said. "This team just lost to Northeastern by 30-some, and they sure have changed their lineup."
Jonathon Pease had a career day. No matter how well the Dragons defended Pease, he always seemed to make the shot. Pease scored 25 points on 8-11 shooting. He added 11 boards and three steals, leading the team in all three categories.
"I've been on a really lucky shooting streak recently," Pease said. "I'm a hot and cold shooter. I guess when you're on a streak you know that everything is going in so you want to shoot as much as possible."
Frank Elegar again tried to carry this team on his back. He had another monster game with 29 points and 11 rebounds. This was Elegar's 13th double-double of his career and the sixth this season.
