Japan tries to catch up to Indian education
Oza, Mihir
Issue date: 1/11/08 Section: Ed-Op
Eager Japanese parents want the best for their children, and by striving for better education and aptitude, it has put them in the right direction. India's betterment also includes its triumph in Information Technology and internet organizations, which only adds to Japan's craze to partner up with their enhanced educational programs.
Being an American, reading about Japan's precariousness must be an absolute shock, since the majority of us view Japan as an economic rival, who comes second to us. If you're a hardcore capitalist, Japan may very well be a threat.
It's comical how Japan once belittled India's possibilities. India is after all a country of poverty and faces government issues, but slowly all is changing.
I think most historians can agree that both India and China are going to be rivals in most aspects of society, ranging from education and technology, all the way to military dominance. India's status is changing everyday, but continually, in the positive direction, and finally a forceful power like Japan acknowledges it. Fortunately, Japan remains optimistic and will adapt and prosper, like it historically has.

There are some strengths in the Indian system, but I suspect the Japanese fad is also something to do with the English language.
The Indian 'system' (I don't mean the education system in isolation though) has some weaknesses. (Continued…)
