Mike Mazzeo

Issue date: 11/30/07 Section: Sports
The Patriots extended their first half lead to 25 on a layup by Will Thomas.

The second half was no different.

The Patriots rode a 17-4 run out of the locker room, sparked by layups by Jordan Carter and Louis Birdsong, extending their lead to 39 with 12:01 to play.

A 3-pointer by Dre Smith with 9:20 left put George Mason up 67-26.

Smith scored 16 to lead the Patriots. He was one of four Patriots in double figures.

A pair of free throws in the closing seconds gave George Mason its largest lead of 47.

"If you don't come ready to play against good teams like that, they'll destroy you," Flint said.

Drexel did not get over the 20-point mark until a 3-pointer by Gerald Colds at 12:01 made it 58-22.

Game Notes:

George Mason leads the all-time series 8-5. … The Dragons and Patriots had previously split the 10 meetings in the Bruiser Flint era. … Last season the Dragons defeated the Patriots before a sold out crowd at the DAC, 61-49 behind 20 points from Dominick Mejia.
