Walking is the best means of transportation for Drexel basketball this upcoming seasoning

Issue date: 11/9/07 Section: Basketball Preview
You made a promise to yourself. Since the men's basketball team did so well last year and was close to making the NCAA Tournament, you vowed to become a true Drexel basketball fan. While it is difficult to officially determine how passionate you are for the team, you figure that a person would have to attend at least 60% of the games for the season to be labeled as a "true Drexel basketball fan." You're pretty concerned because you realize that this won't be an easy feat to accomplish. You can't just miss classes or take off days from co-op just to attend a couple basketball games. Even if you were to miss school, your parents took away your car and you have no money left to take a cab, subway or train. So the question is, "How are you supposed to be able to attend 60% of men's basketball games this season with virtually no means of transportation?" My advice? Buy a pair of sandals. Or I guess in your case, use a pair of walking shoes.

With 19 of 31 regular season games within walking distance of your Drexel dorm room, attending 60 percent of the men's basketball games this season is feasible. There are 14 games at the DAC and five games at the Palestra, which is located at 32nd and South Streets.

Drexel will play 19 different teams including Penn, Navy, Robert Morris, Creighton, Temple, Bucknell, Rider, St. Joseph's, UNC Wilmington, Delaware, Georgia State, Hofstra, William & Mary, Northeastern, George Mason, Towson, James Madison and two other teams depending on what happens with the Philly Classic and the ESPN BracketBusters game.

With so many games to choose from, I compiled a list of nine games that you will not want to miss.

Penn - The two teams may be in different conferences, but the Penn and Drexel rivalry is a historic one, dating back to 1921. Unfortunately for the Dragons, the Quakers have dominated this series 15-4, including a 68-49 win last year. The loss to Penn was one of two non-conference regular season losses for the year. The Dragons hope to avenge last year's defeat in the season opener Nov. 9 against Penn at the Palestra. If things repeat from last year, we could see another fight between Mario the Dragon and that William Penn puppet.
