This year should be another competitive and successful year for the CAA. While ODU is favored to win its 16th straight conference title, every year it seems like the gap between ODU and the rest of the conference gets smaller and smaller. Yet, the question this year remains the same as the past 15 years: Is this the year when ODU is finally knocked off?
Sound familiar? Those are the exact words from the 2006 version of the CAA women's basketball preview. The only major difference between this year and last is the fact that ODU is now going for their 17th straight conference title. The conference should be more competitive than ever, but can we really expect anyone besides ODU to take the title?
Delaware
Expectations are down for the Blue Hens this season. Last season, Delaware earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. With star guard Tyresa Smith moving on to the WNBA, the Blue Hens are expected to finish in the middle of the pack.
• Last year's Record: 26-6, 16-2 (tied second in CAA)
• Key contributors:
Kyle DeHaven - 8.5 PPG, 2.7 RPG.
Courtney Irving - 7.1 PPG, 5.0 RPG
George Mason
Once again expectations remain low for George Mason this season. However, led by four seniors and four juniors, the Patriots have the experience to make a run. Mason hopes a complete overhaul of the coaching staff will give the Patriots the boost they need to make a run at a post season bid.
• Last Year's Record: 8-21, 2-16 (last in CAA)
• Key contributors:
Lateisha Wade - 13.1 PPG, 4.3 RPG
Moni Akintunde - 9.3 PPG, 6.5 RPG
Georgia State
George State is one of the youngest teams in the conference, with only one returning senior. Therefore, expect an up and down year from the Lady Panthers.
• Last Year's Record: 15-15, 7-11 (8th in CAA)
• Key contributors:
Brittany Hollins - 10.1 PPG, 3.3 SPG
Stacie Young - 15.8 PPG, 11.5 RPG - at Miami-Dade (Fl) College
