"No one, and I mean no one, comes into our house, and pushes us around."-From Rudy
Hi, my name is Rob Falcone. Like most of you reading this, I go to Drexel, a school surrounded by several other major Universities to whom we are often compared. I'm told that I don't have as nice a campus to enjoy as my counterparts at Penn, nor do I have as much money as students at Villanova. People say that we don't have the tradition of St. Joe's, or the diversity of Temple. Despite all of these things that, as a Drexel student, I supposedly don't have, I still manage to get by on the one thing I know I do have: pride.
Maybe it's because I have done two incredible co-op experiences. Maybe it's the fact that we are hosting a Presidential Debate and an Olympic Qualifier within a single academic year. It could be watching the Administration build the University around us, while many of our counterparts simply sit on their "history." It's hard to pinpoint exactly why, but I am damn proud to walk down the street wearing my Drexel colors, because I know that our students can go toe to toe with any others in the city.
I am writing this letter because I am the president of the DAC Pack, an organization that has gone far beyond a small group of die-hard basketball fans. The DAC Pack is a collection of students who have found their niche at Drexel and use Drexel Athletics to showcase their enthusiasm for the University and the opportunities it presents to us. The frenzied atmosphere at the DAC, while fueled by our teams' success, is due in large part to the fact that we simply come out to have a good time, get a free shirt, and show the rest of the city that, no we are not Penn, Villanova, St. Joes, or Temple, and no we don't care, because we are the Drexel Dragons.
Over the past few years, our athletic teams have cemented Drexel's position among the rest of the city schools, proving that academically, professionally and athletically, Drexel University is on the map and plans to stay. Last season alone, our men's lacrosse team beat the number one team in the country on their way to a national ranking themselves. Our women's basketball team played in the longest game in NCAA basketball history. Our men's basketball team led the nation in road victories, en route to becoming one of the most talked about programs in the country.
