Drexel ranked third in nation for entrepreneurship

The Baiada Center is located on the ground floor of the Academic Building, where most of the Centerís events and activities take place.
Hundreds of students participate in Baiada Center events, according to Loschiavo. Similar to Drexelís entrepreneurship curriculum, the center draws students from a variety of majors and colleges within the University.
Loschiavo said the center emphasizes having students from different majors work together on projects, because it is ìvery important that we take an interdisciplinary approach.î
The centerís entrepreneurial programs and activities include a Business Plan competition and the New Ventures Projects Online, De Carolis said.
The New Ventures Projects Online serves as a way to connect entrepreneurs and businesses to Drexel LeBow MBA students; this partnership allows MBA students to gain real world experience in entrepreneurship.
The Baiada Center houses student-run businesses, some of which have achieved commercial success after the studentsí graduations from Drexel ñ the company that created a smart card for Philadelphiaís parking meters started as a student business at the Baiada Center.
Regional business people help students with their entrepreneurial pursuits at the Baiada Center, and they mentor students, give speeches, help with programs and assist in other ways, Loschiavo said.
The entrepreneurship rankings from The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine focus on criteria that include the entrepreneurial emphasis of the collegeís curriculum, mentoring, experimental learning, faculty, and the success of alumni, according to a University news release.This marks the second consecutive year the University has appeared in the rankings, according to De Carolis, and the news release wrote that Drexelís ranking is the highest of any school in the Greater Philadelphia region.
