After a scoreless first half, Old Dominion broke a 0-0 score with a goal in the 62nd minute.

That was all the offense the Lady Monarchs would need as Drexel could not get anything going in the second half, losing their second conference game 1-0. With the loss, Drexel fell to 4-4-1 (0-2 CAA) for the season as they have now been shutout the past two games. It was the third win in the last four games for Old Dominion, who improved to 5-2-1 (1-1 CAA). The Dragons are now 1-4-1 on the road this season.

Midfielder Elizabeth Brewster scored the lone goal of the contest when she ran down a pass from Kirstin Walker and fired it into the lower right corner of the goal. It was Brewster's fifth goal of the season. Goalie Lauren Tupman made two saves for ODU, earning her first shutout of the season, and the second for the Lady Monarchs.

Drexel was outshot 15-8 for the game, with six of the team's eight shots coming in the first half. Forward Athena Yiantsos led the team with two shots, including one shot on goal. Each team had four corner kicks a piece.

Goalie Kaitlin Bond made both of her saves in the first half. Despite the team's recent struggles, Bond remains one of the more consistent players on the team. Bond has a 0.85 goals-against-average, which is good for sixth in the CAA. She also ranks third with 41 saves on the season and the junior is tied for second in shutouts with four.

This was the Dragons' third game since star midfielder Aleka Yiantsos went down for the season with a torn ACL in her right knee. The team is now 1-2 in her absence, and has scored one goal since her injury. Aleka was the team leader in goals, assists, and points for the season.

Last season, Drexel was 2-9 in conference games, and this year's team seems to be heading down the same path. With the 1-0 loss to Old Dominion, Drexel has now lost their first two conference games in the same fashion they did last season. The Dragons were also shutout in their previous game, losing 3-0 to William & Mary.

Drexel will be back in action when they host James Madison at Vidas Field Oct. 5. If the Dragons intend on getting back to their winning ways, they will have to be at their very best as JMU, winners of four straight, comes in with a 9-1 overall record (2-0 CAA) and have given up only four goals this season.
