Aleka Yiantsos suffered through a bizarre sequence of events when the women's soccer team played New Jersey Institute of Technology Sept. 19.
Yiantsos assisted a goal scored by Kim Chiarelli in the ninth minute of the game to account for all of the offense between the two teams.
The assist was her third of the season and 41st point of her career, tying her for the school record with Katie Kane.
Soon after, she tore her right anterior cruciate ligament, effectively ending her season.
Fortunately for her, the NCAA changed the rule regarding redshirting after injury. Injured players can receive a medical redshirt after 30 percent of their team's game instead of 20 percent.
Falling in that range, Yiantsos will be given a second crack at her senior season when she returns from her injury next fall.
Yiantsos was coming off of a superb junior season where she led the team in points with 12.
She had four goals and four assists and was named team MVP.
