The 2006-2007 season for Drexel's women's teams proved to be a historic one in many ways. Between the record-breaking performances and thrilling overtime victories it was quite a memorable year for the Lady Dragons:
Basketball
The women's basketball team featured freshman forward Gabriela Marginean, who was also the CAA Rookie of the Year. Marginean led the team in scoring and rebounding with impressive averages of 16.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. The team endured some tough mid-season struggles, including a nine-game losing streak, en route to a 10-21 record. The women would recover and finish the regular season strong, winning three out of four games. One of those final wins came against Northeastern in a game that would become an instant classic. Marginean broke school records in both points and rebounds for an individual game, scoring 47 points and grabbing 22 rebounds as the team would outlast Northeastern in an NCAA-record five-overtime game.
The team expects to return four starters from last season's team, only losing point guard Kira Karlstrom, who has since graduated and signed a two-year contract to play for the Cluj-Napoca franchise in Romania. A senior this season, guard Narissa Suber, who led the team last season in 3-pointers made with 83, will complete one-half of what could be the most devastating one-two punch in the CAA as she and Marginean look to raise their game to another level.
Field Hockey
The Drexel women's field hockey team began the season on such a blistering pace that hopes of a championship run were raised. Instead, after winning six out of seven to begin the season, the ladies would drop ten straight games, ultimately costing the team a post-season berth. Nonetheless, they were able to finish their season on a high note, gutting out one-goal victories against tough CAA opponents in Delaware and Towson.
Senior defender Karie Walton was the defensive stalwart of a team that allowed only 2.57 goals per game. Forward Catherine Chiara led the team with nine goals and four assists, while forward Emily Horvat tallied six goals and eight assists last season.
