SEPTA Discount Program

The new SEPTA CommPass is now available to students and can be purchased online through DrexelOne. Within DrexelOne, click on the "Students" tab and find a link for the Drexel SEPTA Student CommPass Program web site. The passes are purchased at a discounted price of 10% off, 5% of which is covered by SEPTA, and 5% by the University. Drexel defiant in loan scandal, kind of

The New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo named Drexel University in an investigation, claiming Drexel received "kickbacks" of $100,000 per year from Educational Financial Partners for listing them as the University's preferred lender. While many of the schools also named in the scandal returned the money after being named, Drexel maintained the money was not a kickback because it was directly put into a special account to be used for student grants and monetary aid. After several weeks, however, Drexel gave into the Attorney General's demands and returned all the money.



Mia Sardella Charged with Murder

Drexel freshman Mia Sardella surrendered to Upper Darby Police on May 22 to face murder charges in connection with the death of her child and has been released on $250,000 bail after a hearing on May 23. Sardella was charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, and concealing the death of a child. The case began on January 22 when officials were alerted to a "deceased infant" in the Drexel Hill home of a client. Upper Darby Police later found the body in a Volkswagon Beetle trunk and identified Sardella as the mother. Sardella was released on bail.
