Junior Colleen McAndrew will return in goal for 2007. A starter in her first two seasons, McAndrew had 2.61 goals-against average last year. With a new and younger defensive unit playing in front of her, McAndrew's play in goal could be the determining factor in how the team fares this season. McAndrew has seven career shutouts, including six in her rookie season when she compiled a stingy 1.59 GAA.
Head Coach Denise Zelenak returns for her thirteenth season here at Drexel. After taking over the program in 1994, Zelenak has led the team to double-digit win totals in five of the last eight seasons. Last season, Zelenak became the first Drexel Division-I field hockey coach to reach the 100-win milestone with a 3-1 victory over a nationally ranked Villanova team.
The Dragons will have to endure one of the most challenging schedules in school history as they will play just seven of their 19 games at home. The team opens the season on August 25 against Rutgers. The Dragons will play Duke on September 15. Drexel lost a 3-0 exhibition game to Duke, a national semi-finalist last season, on August 18. The non-conference schedule also features local Philadelphia teams Temple, Saint Joseph's, Penn and La Salle. With four three-game road trips planned for this season, it will be a testament to the character of the team as they try to push their way through to the playoffs.
