Global warming debate engineered by corporations

Issue date: 8/24/07 Section: Ed-Op
On Feb. 2 of this year, 600 scientists from governments, academia, green groups and businesses in 40 countries concluded, "warming of the climate system is unequivocal."
The report also found that there was a 90 percent likelihood that our way of life is the cause of the global climate change. By pumping greenhouse gases from fossil fuels into the atmosphere, we've begun a process of climate change, and we will feel its impact for years to come.
But this is not just some specter looming in mankind's distant future; we are already feeling the effects of global warming. In April 2007, National Geographic reported on the impact of climate change worldwide. In the pacific, rising sea levels are destroying island communities, threatening vital infrastructure, increasing erosion of beaches and destroying coral reefs. In South America the increase in temperature and decrease in soil water is expected to transform the flourishing tropical forests of the Amazon into a savanna that will devastate local wildlife. Deadly heat waves brought on by global warming have hit Europe. Asia and Africa are both being hit with increased disease and changing crop yields. Although some areas will increase their yields, it will not offset loss in other areas as well as the increasing demand for food. Africa could see yields from agriculture decrease by 50 percent in the next 10 years. With the region already hit hard with disease, drought, and food shortages, global warming is only exacerbating these problems.
All around the world we are feeling the impact. We even see the effects of this problem right here in the United States; one only has to look to New Orleans to see the dangers of continuing down the path of denial.
Global Warming deniers have launched an effective campaign. For years they have tricked the American public into believing there is no evidence to suggest that global warming is man-made. It isn't hard to find deniers that insist that the whole idea of global warming is a "liberal conspiracy" and a "hoax."

Justin,
Is this the kind of indoctrination they are teaching at Drexel? Never let the facts get in the way of global warming alarmism. Let's review some shall we? Facts:
"They spent $19 million in the pursuit to keep the American public, and the American government, ignorant of the extent of the problem. (Continued…)

Actually, the IPCC report concluded that there is a GREATER THAN 90 percent chance that human activity is causing global warming.
Many scientists on the panel wanted to peg it as a greater than 99% chance, but of course beurocrats from places like the US and China forced them to compromise the language to make it weaker. (Continued…)
