For a taste of traditional Thai cuisine, I suggest you indulge in one of the creative and flavorful dishes available at Lemon Grass.
Lemon Grass is a small Thai restaurant located right off campus, but it was not until recently that I discovered this gem in the University City district. With its convenient location and reasonable prices, it's a great place to grab dinner if you're in the mood for something other than the countless pizza places around campus.
I walked in on a Sunday evening, very open minded, as I was unsure of what kind of food I would find. My guest and I were seated immediately, though we waited a bit to have our orders taken. Our first order was an appetizer of tulip dumplings. The chicken and crabmeat dumplings were steamed perfectly and it was a great appetizer to start off with. The flavors were a great combination-especially when combined with the flavorful vinaigrette served on the side.
The dinner menu had a great list of creative combinations. They also have a very creative vegetarian menu. I decided to go with a very traditional dinner and ordered Pad Thai. The thin rice noodles were served with a choice of chicken or shrimp and had many vegetables mixed in, as well as eggs and ground peanuts. The flavors in the Pad Thai were very satisfying and it was the perfect amount of food. The dish was creatively prepared and was not overfilling, with just enough room for their unique desserts.
I decided to try their Tropical Dessert consisting of fried bananas topped with a scoop of coconut ice cream. The warm bananas were perfectly fried to give them a nice crisp edge and had a large scoop of soft coconut ice cream to give it an original tropical blend of flavors.
Overall, I was very impressed with the quality of food at Lemon Grass. I enjoyed everything that was served and for its low prices, it's definitely a great restaurant to have near campus.
The service at Lemon Grass was rather unpredictable. There were times where our waitress went missing for quite some time and there were other times in which our plate was taken from our table as we took our last bite. Though the service could sometimes make or break your dining experience, do not let their strange service convince you to pass by this place. The food makes up for service.
The colorful and attractive restaurant makes a great place to go on a casual date or to catch an inexpensive dinner with some friends.
Lemon Grass is a great place to try an interesting cuisine and comfortably dine in a casual restaurant. Next time you're having that "Well, what do you want for dinner?" conversation, consider Lemon Grass. With its unique and diverse menu, I assure you tnobody will be left disappointed.
