Julie Mostov has been selected to lead the newly created Office of International Programs, as part of the University's strategic plan to develop international presence.
Mostov, who was previously the director of the International Area Studies and Women's Studies programs at Drexel will hold the title of Associate Vice Provost for International Programs. According to Mostov, this new office was created was to centralize the existing resources and activities at Drexel relating to international programs.
"We do have a number of programs and different activities in every one of the colleges that are connected in some way to international programs but we don't have an office that coordinates these activities," Mostov said. "Through this office, we will try to create a visibility for Drexel in the global arena, and recognize that Drexel needs to in fact be more international and set itself as a global University, encouraging students to see themselves as global citizens."
Mostov was chosen for this position by Provost Director, and will be reporting directly to him. In her new role, Mostov will help coordinate and facilitate programs and activities at that promote international learning and experience. One of the first things she plans to do is to set up an advisory board of representatives from various departments at Drexel.
"We can then think about how we can best leverage our resources at the University to create an effective and productive office," Mostov said.
Some of the departments that will be represented on the advisory board are: International Admissions Office, International Area Studies department, Steinbright Career Development Center, Study Abroad Office, International Students and Scholars Office, the English Language Center, and all the colleges and schools within Drexel.
"Our idea is to work with all of the stakeholders at the University to coordinate, to facilitate, not to try to duplicate anything that the people are doing, and not to try to take over anybody else's activities but really to enhance our existing resources," Mostov said.
