Goodwin College appoints new dean

A year long national search for the new dean of the Goodwin College of Professional Studies ended June 19 with the appointment of Dr. William Lynch.
Since July 2006, Lynch has been serving as the interim dean of Goodwin College and has now been formally appointed to the position by Provost Stephen Director. His appointment will be effective July 1. Lynch has also served as director of the School of Education since 2004 and will continue to serve in that capacity over the next several months until a replacement is found.
"Dr. Lynch's proven record as a leader and innovator, combined with his experience as interim Goodwin College dean will benefit the Drexel community in his new duties," Director said in a press release.
During Lynch's time as director, the School of Education has gone from being unrecognized in the U.S. News & World Report's America's Best Graduate Schools ranking, to being ranked 38 among the nation's graduate education programs for 2008.
During the 2006-2007 academic year, Lynch also served as the Interim Dean of the Goodwin College of Professional Studies and created a new mission, organizational structure and program portfolio in alignment with the University's new strategic plan, according to a University press release.
Prior to coming to Drexel, Lynch served as vice president for operations and acting CEO for GWSolutions Inc. and executive director of the Center for Distance and Mediated Learning, George Washington University's continuing education program.
He served for 17 years as a member of the faculty of the Graduate School of Education at George Washington University and was the founding director of its educational technology leadership program, the university's first online program. As a result of the program's success, Lynch received the United States Distance Learning Association's "Most Outstanding Achievement in Distance Learning" award.
Lynch received a bachelor of arts in history from the University of North Carolina Charlotte, a master's of arts in religion from the University of Iowa and a Ph.D. in curriculum theory and development from the University of Maryland.
