Balancing studies with sports is very difficult. However, four Drexel athletes excelling on the field in addition to the classroom were named to the 2007 All-Academic District II at large teams.
Adam Crystal was named to the men's All-District II First Team while Ryan Hluschak received All-District II Second Team honors. Katie Walton was selected to the women's All-District II First Team with Kate Hynes being named to the All-District II Second Team.
Crystal, a leader and standout defender on the men's lacrosse team who earned a share of the 2007 Colonial Athletic Association regular season championship, was named CAA defensive player of the year as a senior. During his final three seasons at Drexel, Crystal was named All-Conference and was a Preseason Honorable Mention All-America pick by Inside Lacrosse this season. Crystal, who currently maintains a 3.71 grade point average, is majoring in history and politics. He is also one of 10 nominees for the Lowe's Men's Lacrosse Senior CLASS award.
Hluschak, a junior wrestler who earned All-American status, finished eighth in the 2006-2007 NCAA Wrestling Championships. His 33 wins this season were the third-most in the history of the wrestling program. Hluschak was named the 2006-2007 CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year in wrestling. He is a three-time member of the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic Team. Hluschak, who is majoring in business administration, holds a 3.30 GPA.
Walton, a senior standout defender for the field hockey team was pleased about being named to the team.
"I just found out about it, I feel pretty good," Walton said. "It's always exciting to have your achievements recognized. That's not why you do it but it's good to be noticed."
For Walton her latest achievement is just won of many accolades she has received.
She is a two-time All-CAA and Mid-Atlantic Region selection. Walton was named The Philadelphia Inquirer Field Hockey Academic Performer of the Year in 2005 and 2006. During her junior season Walton was selected to ESPN: The Magazine's 2005-2006 Acadmic All-America Third Team. A biology major, Walton holds a perfect 4.0 GPA.
