Memorial Day is not really known as a drinking holiday; most Americans aren't out at bars, but rather barbecuing at home with their families. Still, for many it does signify the start of summer, and nothing says summer like a crisp hefeweizen (or "wheat beer" for my non-Bavarian readers).
Enter Sweaty Betty, Boulder Beer Company's summer seasonal ale. Like most hefeweizens, it's blonde in color and unfiltered so it is a bit cloudy. Unlike most hefeweizens, it gives an unusually sweet, honey-like aftertaste toward the back of the mouth. At 5.9 percent ABV, it is also unusually strong.
While most of these types of beers are flavored with citrus fruits, like orange, this one in particular offers heavy notes of banana to give it a unique taste. The mouth feel is light although the beer has its fair share of carbonation (and a thick white head to go with it). Get it on tap at Moriarty's. One is all you need to get yourself ready for summer.

Bean Sprouts are tasty and delicious. That's their appeal. Oh, and did I mention cheap? How about the fact that they're nutritious? For emphasis, I'm going to repeat myself: They are delicious, tasty, crunchy, and particularly tasty if you take the time to, perhaps, actually clean them-which is simple, considering that "cleaning" bean sprouts consists of running cold water over them.
Bean sprouts can be prepared in a number of ways, are ridiculously good for you, and everyone can eat them. As far as I know, there is no religion or dietary ideology that suggests that eating these tasty pale vegetables is somehow morally reprehensible. Of course, if you don't like vegetables, and don't eat any, you have bigger issues than worrying about bean sprout purchases. Otherwise, these tasty vegetables are the perfect solution to the money-strapped college student who needs something to go with-or replace-those ramen noodles. Oh, and hey: the best place to buy them is Chinatown, where the prices are lowest. While you're there, you can pick up al those snacks that negate the bean sprouts nutritional value: It's a win win scenario.
