"We decided to do this late in the game in terms of the season," Graham said. "I had everything ready for senior night which was potentially my only chance to do the miking of Bruiser and to get any of the stuff I wanted to get from a home game, and Bruiser was sick."
"He was a trooper, though, and he agreed to do it. The stuff that was in the film from him was terrific."
Unfortunately for the team, the season did not have a fairy-tale ending. Drexel was snubbed by the NCAA Selection Committee. Despite being relegated to the NIT, the Dragons had one more opportunity to provide memories for the home crowd.
"Yea, I was disappointed, but at the same time, I have never been to the DAC and heard it like it was that night against NC State," Graham said. "The last memory of the season for me is still always going to be the building shaking when Elegar dunked on the first possession. The place was just going berserk. That's what this season was. That's what these guys and this team gave to the school."
Wipe Out Productions will be releasing a DVD of the Dawn of the Dragon, and the plan, according to Graham, is to have it out early next month. If nothing else, the DVD should be worth purchasing based on the special features alone.
"The DVD has an entire almost four and a half minute block of nothing but Bruiser on the sideline and it's interesting to hear," Graham said.
It will be tough for the Dragons to follow up this past season with one that is worthy of a documentary next year.
Despite the loss of four scholarship players, Drexel looks to be a strong contender in the CAA in 2007-08.
"I think that they are a good team," Graham said. "If you play defense the way Bruiser wants to play defense, you are going to be in just about every game you play. The question is to figure out a way to score enough to be able to complement that defense."
"It would not surprise me one bit if they win 20 games again next year."
Until then, we can reminisce about the magical season that was. For one winter, the Drexel Dragons crushed the Big 5, and they were considered by many to be the best team in Philadelphia. It brought the students, known for their apathy, collectively to their feet to chant "Let's go Drexel!"
Dawn of the Dragon ought to provide a feeling of pride and accomplishment to everyone affiliated with the University.
The half-hour production will air May 26 at 5 p.m. on the CN8 network, but there will be another showing, June 16 at 4:30 p.m.
