The NACE study found multiple factors for this increase, said Franks. One primary reason he cited was the country's economic growth, especially in the service sector, federal and state government posts, and nonprofit jobs. The economy goes up and down, but it is currently growing. This growth is a boon for the job market, according to Franks.
Parts of the job market are down, such as manufacturing sectors. This does not have much of an effect on what Franks described as the "college labor market."
Also, explained Franks, some members of the baby boomer generation are beginning to retire. This occurrence is creating more job openings for recent college graduates.
The combination of these factors leads to more job opportunities for graduates, said Franks.
The largest regional growth in jobs is occurring in the country's Sunbelt region of the south and west. This coincides with this area's population gain, explained Franks.
The lowest relative growth is occurring in the northeast and especially the Midwest. This trend also coincides with population change.
