One of the most noteworthy awards given out Monday was the Dean's Cup. The Dean's Cup has been awarded to the best fraternity or sorority chapter in each of the three governing councils for many years. According to Director of Greek Life, Stephen Rupprecht, research is still being done how and when this great tradition started.
This year the Dean's Cup was awarded to Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity for the IFC, Delta Zeta Sorority for the PHC and Chi Upsilon Sigma Sorority for the BIG-C.
"The Dean's Cup is to fraternity/sorority life like the Stanley Cup is to hockey, it's the most coveted trophy," Rupprecht said in an e-mail.
In order to qualify for the Dean's cup and maintain status on campus, all Greek chapters had to submit an application called the Chapter Achievement. The Chapter Achievement Plan is a 20 page, 59 question annual accreditation report submitted by all chapters by January, recognizing all of their outstanding accomplishments in the past year.
"The Chapter Achievement Plan is the most demanding end of the year report required of any student organization on Drexel's campus and the fraternity/sorority students do an outstanding job documenting their success over the past year," said Rupprecht.
The Chapter Achievement Plan is scored and the Dean's Cup is given out to the most outstanding organization in the Interfraternity Council (IFC), Panhellenic Council (PHC) and the Bicultural Inter-Greek Council (BIG-C).
Member, Jim Breen of Pi Kappa Alpha expressed his appreciation of his chapter's win as well as seeing other chapters recognized for their hard work.
"This award truly means a lot to our fraternity. It's recognition that all of our hard work over the past year is recognized by the Dean," said Breen in an e-mail.
Winning the Dean's cup was nothing new to the Delta Zeta Sorority who have won the Dean's Cup award in 2006, 2005, 2002, and 2001, but were still ecstatic according to outstanding president, Cynthia Rose.
