Some NFL Draft coverage broadcasters placed the label on them as the team to beat in the AFC but with all the Super Bowls they've won (three in the past six years), and their successful off-season this year, they are the team to beat until they beat themselves.

MLB Report: The Mets Have More Wins than the Phillies

The Red Sox took two out of three games against the Yankees last weekend spoiling the revenge plans of Yankee Nation in their own home, at the same time silencing A-Rod's bat. He finished the month with 14 home runs, tied with Albert Pujols for most in the opening month, and 34 RBIs, one short of April record held by Juan Gonzalez.

The Yankees really need to figure out what they are doing with their pitching rotation before the postseason comes along. The AL Central has three legitimate contenders in Minnesota, Cleveland and Detroit (in that order), and only one can win the division title. As it looks right now, the Yankees can't compete with the Red Sox, so the wild card is their only way into the playoffs, and that means beating two of those AL Central squads.

Mike Mussina and Andy Pettitte worked well five years ago, but nostalgia doesn't win championships - solid pitching does. Kei Igawa has proven himself worthy of the third spot in the rotation but has already come back from an injury this season, and Phillip Hughes still has to get in a couple more starts before anything can be truly measured. Carl Pavano is just plain shaky; not the kind of guy you want down the stretch. Of course the Yankees could always tap into their limitless pit of money to snag the year's hot pitcher before the trade deadline, but I still don't think it will help.

Either the Indians or Twins are going to win the AL Central, and whoever doesn't will win the wild card, leaving the Yankees on the outside looking in. Fortunately for those of us who aren't Yankee fans, we can have a good laugh at the fact that Alex Rodriguez finished with 79 home runs and no playoff berth. Oh well, he can always go to sleep on his bed made of money, in his room made of money, in his house made of money, which is on his property made of money.
