Phi Mu's Kerry Mahoney looks for an open receiver. She finished with two touchdowns, but Phi Mu fell short to Phi Sigma Sigma, 21-13, May 3 at Buckley Field.

Phi Mu cowbells and cheers of exhilaration resonated throughout Buckley Field for a large portion of the game as Phi Mu stormed off to a 13-point lead over last year's football powerhouse. However, Phi Sigma Sigma would not let their championship hopes and dreams vanish.

Phi Sig scored 21 unanswered points in the final 11 minutes of the game to take the Panhellenic Council Powderpuff Football Championship, beating Phi Mu 21-13, May 3 at Buckley Field.

Kerry Mahoney led Phi Mu with two touchdowns. She threw a touchdown pass on fourth down midway through the first session and scored another touchdown on a one-yard run just as time expired in the first half, giving her team a 13-0 lead.

But Phi Sig was determined to defend their PHC Powderpuff Championship title.

Mary Sniezek put Phi Sig on the board by throwing her first touchdown pass of the night with 10:50 left in the game to cut the lead to 13-7.

As time dwindled down, Phi Sig was clutch down the stretch. Sniezek threw for her second touchdown of the day to tie the game with 3:12 remaining. Phi Sig got the extra point to take a 14-13 lead.

After an interception by Grace "Hella" Bellato, Phi Mu had one more chance to win, but Bellato had another pick and returned it for a touchdown, sealing the game and the championship for Phi Sig.

"It was my fault," Mahoney, Phi Mu's quarterback, said after the game. "My girls were great, but I wish I could've pulled through for them in the end."

Heading into the championship game, Phi Mu and Phi Sig had not given up any points against their opponents. Phi Mu shutout Alpha Sigma Alpha and Delta Phi Epsilon 25-0 and 19-0 respectively. Meanwhile, Phi Sig shutout Delta Zeta 25-0 on their road to the finals.

Bellato discussed her feelings on the game after guiding her team to the Powderpuff Title.

"It was amazing," Bellato said. "It was hella good."
