The annual Undergraduate Student Government Association elections will begin May 10. This year, the ballot is split between two groups, Common Sense for Drexel and Without Bounds.
Common Sense for Drexel was started four years ago to unite a group of students who were inspired by a quote from C. E. Stowe, "Common sense is the knack of seeing things as they are and doing things as they ought to be done."
The main goal of Common Sense is to find the best solutions to student problems, that is those solutions that make the most sense. They believe that the focus of the USGA should be shifted so that the organization becomes more student-oriented and acts as a facilitator between the students and the administration.
"Common Sense is in no way part of or endorsed by the current USGA as they must remain unbiased," Kristin Smith, USGA archivist and a pre-junior majoring in biomedical engineering, said. "Although some people on the ticket are past USGA members, we also have people on the ticket from a variety of student organizations. We are actively seeking out those interested in running for USGA to get them involved in this campaign."
Common Sense includes individuals from various University organizations such as Greek Life, the Pennoni Honors College, Dean's Advisory Board, Club and Intramural Sports and the Dance Ensemble. This allows Common Sense to be familiar with the problems students usually face.
"Through our experiences in these various student organizations we have the first hand knowledge and experience needed to tackle issues that come our way," Smith said.
"From the viewpoint of the student body president campaign, I think that our platforms are very similar," said Jeff Gardosh, a junior majoring in Information Systems who is running for USGA president via Common Sense. "The biggest difference is that Without Bounds is a personal campaign [whereas] Common Sense is a group effort. We promote each other and are always there to help."

If Common Sense and Without Bounds existed back in the 1890's. Which platform would Tony have favored. Remember AJ's Vision..."The World will change and the Institute will change with it"
