University officials are investigating the theft and vandalism of six athletics banners outside the Daskalakis Athletic Center over the course of the past four months.
The most recent incident occurred on Saturday shortly after 12:30 a.m. with a banner being damaged.
Five banners displaying different sports were stolen over the past four months and one was damaged in what was believed to be an attempted theft according to Sean Joyce, corporate sales manager and special events manager for the DAC.
Joyce explained that surveillance cameras cover the area outside the DAC and that the suspects' faces can be clearly seen in the videos.
"Public safety is investigating," added Joyce.
As the investigation continues, Joyce said that plans are underway to replace the banners and said that each banner costs over $100.
Joyce urged anyone with information about the incident to contact public safety or DAC staff.
He added that if the perpetrators come forward and return the banners undamaged he may be prepared to work with public safety in adjusting judicial sanctions.
"We are trying to raise school spirit by adding little touches like the banners and don't think it is right that people are damaging and stealing the banners" said Joyce.
