Did you know there were two South Asian fraternities active on campus? Or that a Drexel dance team has won first place in three different tournaments in the past year? Were you aware that Drexel has an all-male South Asian dance team?

The best place to catch these and many other performances was on April 28 at the VOICE (Variety of Indian Cultural Expressions) annual cultural show at the Auditorium in the Main Building.

The show strived to take the audience to the far reaches of India on a cultural journey, and they succeeded.

The show serves as a platform for the participants as well as various Drexel organizations to display their talents and help promote cultural awareness.

The first skit, put on by the sophomores, set the tone for the whole show with dancing, singing and comedy. They delivered the plot with dancing similar to the style of Bollywood movies, and by the end of it the crowd was ready for more.

The momentum kept up with performances by a variety of students in medical school and the girls of Delta Phi Omega.

The girls of DPO successfully arranged English and Hindi music to make a dance medley that allowed them to show their choreographic skills as well their costume design.

The act everyone was waiting for, Drexel Bhangra, was one of the most talked about performances. They had a near perfect routine, even doing the Bhangra to the "Casper Slide." For those of you know not in the know, the Bhangra is a lively dance that originated in the Punjab region of India.

The auditorium got louder especially after the dance performance by the men of Sigma Beta Rho.

The last act before the intermission was the seniors' dance that began with a slideshow chronicling their years together as well the many hours of practice they undertook just for the show. It was a very emotional performance, concluding with them removing their costumes to reveal 'Seniors '07' T-shirts underneath.

Through their re-enactment of a classic Indian story, they were able to integrate the latest Hindi music with sets and props that set the bar for the remaining performances.
