The seniors on the Drexel women's lacrosse team made their last game one to remember.

Senior Kerry Kelly had three goals and five assists while fellow senior Emily Hoesch scored three goals and three assists as the Dragons defeated American University 15-4, April 24 at Vidas Field.

With the win, the team finished 12-5, tying the record for wins in a season set by the 2006 squad.

Early on, the game went back and forth until the score was locked at two apiece. Kelly broke the tie with 12:53 to go in the second half.

Her unassisted goal was the first of 12 consecutive goals for the team, which stretched the lead to 14-2 before finally winning 15-4.

"[It was] a nicely played game," Head Coach Anna Marie Vesco said. "Our shooting stars stepped up. It was a nice way to send off the seniors with a decisive win."

The game featured a record- breaking performance from Kelly who broke the previous single season record for points by Hoesch when she scored unassisted giving Drexel a 6-2 lead.

Kelly also set the single season and career record for assists.

Her five assists in the game tied a team record as well.

"It's not about scoring," Kelly said. "It's about helping the team out."

Hoesch leaves the team as its all time leader in goals, points and single season goals.

Gwenna Johnson added three goals and one assist for the Dragons while Jessica Bill and Katie Lawson each scored two goals.

Kaitlin Keegan and Nicole Iacono also had goals in the victory.

Drexel's defense was also a key to the victory, holding American without a goal for 30 minutes while Drexel was going on its 12-0 run. Although American had 19 shots, many of them were from sharp angles.

Drexel's goalie tandem of Lauren LaBella and Rachel Behrndt combined to make ten saves in the victory.

Drexel held a 41-19 shot advantage in the game.

The Drexel seniors walked away from the season with great memories.

"My favorite moment was the spring break trip when our bus caught on fire," Hoesch said. "It was a great team bonding experience."
