University student Dante Angerville died April 5, as a result of complications during surgery. He was nineteen.

Angerville was a second year student, majoring in Civil Engineering and had just finished his second year at Drexel. He was classified as a pre-junior based on credit hours.

"Dante's mom asked me to convey to everyone at Drexel that he absolutely loved Drexel," said David Ruth, Dean of Students. "He was an AJ Drexel Scholar and he had graduated as valedictorian from his high school."

In 2004, Angerville was diagnosed with a rare form cancer called pheochromocytoma, where a person usually has a tumor in their adrenal glands -- which can be sometimes removed by surgery. Angerville had had several surgeries prior to this one with varying degrees of success.

"For those who don't already know, I'll be going for surgery this Thursday," Angerville wrote in a note he posted on Facebook on April 2. "They're going to try and remove my tumor. I'll be off-line for a while so don't go nuts if I don't respond to a message or somethin [sic.]."

Angerville is survived by his mother Alinda Angerville.

"As far as memories of Dante and his feelings about his time at Drexel, I can honestly tell you that being there for him was a dream come true," Alinda Angerville told the Triangle. "He fought very hard to earn the right to be one of the students at the school and never once complained about the many health issues he faced and did not at any time utilize his illness as an excuse for or reason not to do his absolute best at any given moment."

Angerville was born in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from East NY Transit Tech High School in 2005. He also worked as an intern at New York City Transit before coming to Drexel.

"Dante and I met during special trips run on the NYC Subway by the Transit Museum to benefit the March of Dimes," said John Simpson, a freshman majoring in civil engineering at Cornell University. "All that comes to mind when I think about Dante are the good times and that's because there weren't any bad times when Dante was around."

At the University, Angerville was a part of American Society of Civil Engineers and American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He is fondly remembered by all those who knew him.

It is very difficult to convey how much it meant for Dante to be able to come to Drexel. The hard work and time he put in to getting here is beyond my ability to convey with mere words. (Continued…)
