A reception welcoming incoming Senior Vice President James Tucker was held on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 in the Bossone Research Center.
Tucker will replace Anthony Caneris, as senior vice president for student life and administrative services in June.
"Tony has big feet," President Constantine Papadakis said. "Which means he has big shoes that need to be filled. Jim [Tucker] will not only fill those shoes, but overflow them."
A crowd of approximately 500 gathered for the event. The majority of the guests were University faculty and staff. Student organizations were also represented by athletes, USGA, Greek life, and residence hall staff.
"I'm really excited to start working with Mr. Tucker," Lauren Hiller, a junior majoring in business administration and the president of Delta Phi Epsilon sorority, said. "He seems to be bringing many great opportunities to Drexel's campus."
Tucker will be in charge of administrative services and programs, such as public safety, facilities management, and educational services. He will also be overseeing student life, which makes him one of the most important administrators for students on campus.
USGA is one organization that will be working very closely with Tucker.
"It's going to be interesting because it is brand new," Dan Steinberg, president of USGA, said. "He's so excited about learning our system and how we work. It's a great opportunity for both parties. He has been very receptive of student's point of views."
In his speech, Tucker mentioned many exciting projects and programs that he will be overseeing in his new position. He will be helping to progress the new wellness center and parking garage plans, as well as a new academic lab building.
While working at University of Cincinnati, he dealt with a lot of building construction-something that is vital to the Drexel campus.
He will also be working on Drexel's plans for building a 30-story hotel west of 30th Street Station, next to One Drexel Plaza, and another new residence hall.
