Now the program is left with some question marks. The loss of Mejia is a blow to the team's shooting, which was one of its struggles the past few seasons. Losing Mason is a loss in the defensive and leadership columns. Crawford's loss is a loss inside and also a big blow to the team's energy. Many of his blocks sparked fast break opportunities that were otherwise absent in the team's absence.
I'm not saying the cupboard is bear. Frank Elegar is an excellent centerpiece for next year's team, and Scott Rodgers and Tramayne Hawthorne will form a solid backcourt. However, next year's team has a lot to prove. This year's team was a lock to be good. Next year's squad will definitely have its fair share of detractors.
Going back to Crawford, he may turn out to be the player missed the most. His uncanny ability to block shots was huge to the team's success. In addition, solid big men are hard to come across, especially at the mid-major level. Fortunately for Drexel, they have some big men that will be ready to play next year. However, we don't really know what they can do. Perhaps, the success of the 2007-2008 squad will be based on how well the team can fill Crawford's undoubtedly big shoes.
