Living in Philadelphia gives us a great opportunity to listen and discover new musical movements. With an array of different musical talents spawning out of Philadelphia, it's quite possible for bands coming out of the city's rich culture to produce new sounds and styles like none other. Local band Chroma, a fusion rock band with a little bit of a funk feeling does well in demonstrating some of the things Philly can offer.

They offer a unique, rich style that does not seem to follow the conventions of most contemporary music. With songs like Choices, the listener can really feel the funky style from the slow bass and drums accompanied by an organ almost straight out of gospel. Every now and again, there will be a groovy lick that flies out from the guitar to add some more depth to the already very solid sound. Chroma's style is very smooth and consistent; they stick to a very laid-back style and build up slowly from the opening riff without jumping into a guitar solo of Zakk Wylde proportions. Even the vocal stylings seem to really smoothly flow with the bass and drums. The vocals show some definitive blues influences and help out with the funky feeling.

However, because its style is so different from what most people listen to, Chroma may feel like it's almost exclusive to the fusion-rock fan. The band does not yet have an album released, but their music can be checked out at their official website www.chromatime.com. There will be a tour across the East Coast of the US starting in New York April 6 which will lead into their, as of yet, untitled album release this summer.
