President Constantine Papadakis announced the selection of James R. Tucker as the new senior vice president for student life and administrative services March 14. Tucker will replace Anthony Caneris, who is retiring in June after over 10 years with the University.
Prior to joining Drexel, Tucker served as the vice president for administrative and business services at the University of Cincinnati.
"I am pleased that in Jim Tucker we have found such a strong and accomplished leader for this vital position," Papadakis said in a press release.
In his role as Senior Vice President, Tucker will be responsible for managing a broad range of departments and projects.
"Construction of the new Wellness Center addition to the Daskalakis Athletic Center is a top priority expected for completion in Fall 2009. Building additional housing for students, increasing parking and improving academic space are all projects that I have begun to address," Tucker said when asked about his initial plans.
"I also plan to meet regularly with representatives from the USGA who represent the collective voice of the students, as well as host open forums with the general student population," Tucker said.
Tucker was on campus prior to his official start, when he attended a meeting at Towers Hall.
"I attended my first town hall meeting in Towers Hall with President Papadakis and representatives from the USGA. Most recently I attended the commuter students town hall meeting and plan to attend the next three town hall meetings scheduled during the Spring term," Tucker said.
"I truly enjoy working with students, faculty and staff. I find working with people who have a common goal to make an institution of learning a better place very rewarding," he added.
Drexel stood out for Tucker because of the improvement the University has seen over the past ten years.
"It is impressive how much Drexel has accomplished over the last decade with regards to enrollment, campus expansion and beautification, and academic and student programs" Tucker said.
