Almost 115 days ago, the men's basketball won its first Division I game of the season, 59-46 at Vermont, just five days after the Catamounts upset then-No. 13 Boston College.
Drexel then upset St. Joe's, defeated Villanova for the first time ever and won at Syracuse. It was at that point that Drexel students knew that this season was going to be a special one. Despite all the memorable wins the Dragons have had this season, there was one ultimate goal - to make the NCAA Tournament.
Drexel's future for this year's NCAA Tournament will be determined March 11. Selection Sunday could be one of the greatest days in Drexel history, or it could be one of the most depressing. Drexel has put together a very impressive resume, but because it lost to Virginia Commonwealth in the CAA Semifinals and was only fourth in the conference, it may be difficult for Drexel to earn a spot in the Big Dance.
Sunday evening, Drexel students will be huddled around the television in anticipation of hearing whether or not Drexel University is headed to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1996. If Drexel does make the Big Dance, expect plenty of celebration to occur in the days following. If not, just blame it on the Drexel Shaft.
