Along with Mejia, three other Dragons made it to double figures. Scott Rodgers ended with 16 points. Frank Elegar poured in 14, and Tramayne Hawthorne connected for 10. Two others, Bashir Mason (nine) and Chaz Crawford (eight), were on the cusp of making it six Dragons to reach ten points.
"We wanted to play with that playoff energy," Mejia said. "For the seniors, this is our last few games of college basketball. We really wanted to play our hearts out and leave it all out on the court."
Due to the excellent shooting, rebounds were hard to come by. The Dragons outrebounded the Tigers 26-23. Thanks to Crawford pulling down 13 boards, no one else on either team finished with more than five.
After a week of practice, the Dragons will travel to Richmond, Va. for the Colonial Athletic Association tournament. With a bye, the Dragons do not have to play until March 3, when they will play the winner of the opening-round Northeastern-Delaware game.
The Dragons' at-large hopes have been strengthened by winning six of their last seven games, but they need to make a deep run in the CAA Tournament to impress the Selection Committee enough to earn a bid into the NCAA field.
"They are just so much better this year," Towson coach Pat Kennedy said. "They can finish all the stuff they couldn't finish a year ago."
"We've got 22 wins," Flint said. "We have played pretty well the whole season.
"It's always good to have momentum going into the playoffs, but you still have got to play well in the playoffs to win games."
