Although Ohio-based Inhale Exhale is currently only doing one-off shows during the month of March, the band is getting things cooking for the near future. The band, which plans to tour most of the rest of the year, is riding the release of a new album, The Lost. The Sick. The Sacred. on Christian-rock label Solid State Records. "We have a lot of things kind of in the works," says guitarist John LaRussa. "Our booking agency is talking to a lot of different bands. We're going to hit all the festivals in the summer. There's a lot of talk right now, but nothing definite until we put the stamp on it. I could tell you some stuff, but then it's kind of like 'what if it doesn't happen?' We'll probably take a month off and do some spotted dates in March; then in April we're planning a tour. June and July and the rest of the summer are going to be really busy."
The band's membership on a religious label does not mean their music only appeals to Christians. They try to appeal to everyone, give a good show and still stay true to their beliefs.
"Whether you're a Christian or a Buddhist or whatever you believe in - that's up to you," LaRussa says. "But it's like all of a sudden, you've been on tour and you come home, and you're like a different person than you were on stage and on the road. All of a sudden, it's about rock and roll and living the life. We believe what we believe, no matter where we're at, what we're doing. When we make music, it just naturally becomes a part of it. That's where we fall in line with all that kind of stuff."
LaRussa feels that Inhale Exhale has a more promising future than his previous band, Narcissus.
"It's kind of … a lot of the same because I'm playing guitar and stuff like that," he said. "I think the big difference is Inhale Exhale is a more organized type of rock, and the record we have out now, we kind of experimented a lot with progressive-type stuff, but it's more straightforward. The next record that we're writing now is going to be just as heavy, but it's going to bring a lot of the different elements forward. Narcissus was just straightforward heavy Pink Floyd. It was a lot more electronica in different respects than just trying to make something weird. It's supposed to be a different kind of vibe, and Inhale Exhale is heavier, obviously."
Inhale Exhale already plans to work on a new record after touring. However, they face many challenges in doing so.
"We're starting to write [the record] right now," he said. "We're kind of in constant pre-production. We record it at my house, and basically, I think the plan is just to push ourselves musically and creative-wise, and try to make something different with keeping our style. Otherwise, really just touring and hitting the road as much as possible, and trying to push the record."
The band hopes to release a music video for their latest single.
"We were off for about two weeks and we shot the video in Pennsylvania," said LaRussa. "Endeavor Media did it. It's all done right now. It's for 'Redemption,' the first track on our album."
