Lacrosse's Hoesch and Labella named to All-Regional Team
Lacrosse midfielder Emily Hoesch was named to the Mid-Atlantic All-Regional Second Team along with freshman goalie Lauren Labella. The teams were selected by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association and the United States Lacrosse All-American Commitee.
Hoesch broke her own single-season records with 54 goals and 70 total points. In addition, the midfielder led the team in draw controls, ground balls and turnovers caused. After just three seasons as a Dragon, she is Drexel's career leader in points and draw controls.
Labella led the CAA with an 8.59 goals against average and a .530 save percentage. Nationally, Labella ranked eighth in save percentage and 12th in goals against average. Her outstanding performance this past season tied the Drexel record for single season wins in goal with 12. The outstanding performances by Hoesch and Labella helped the Dragons finish the 2006 landmark season at 12-5.
Field Hockey's Walton honored for academic success
Field hockey star Katie Walton was named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Women's At-Large First Team. This marks the second straight season she has been named to the District II First Team. Her name will now be put on the national ballot, and she will be eligible for a spot on the Academic All-American Team.
Walton is an accomplished defender with soid possession skills. Her defense helped anchor a team that allowed just 1.63 goals per game and helped Drexel achieve a 10-9 record. Her great play on the field, in addition to her 4.0 GPA allowed Walton to achieve the honor of being named the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic Performer of the Year in 2005.
