Ecco Qui has been shut down for an indefinite period of time following an electric fire that occurred two weeks ago. The sign at the entrance of the building reads, "Ecco Qui will be closed due to an electrical fire, look for a re-opening soon." It is not specified how long the repairs will take and what kind of damages were sustained. There was no report made to the University's Department of Public Safety.
No public announcement was made about the fire at the restaurant and bar, which is located at 3200 Chestnut Street. The Triangle was unable to reach the management of Ecco Qui.
"No one even called me to tell me that I didn't have to work," said Chrissy Tamburrino, a senior majoring in elementary education and also a waitress at Ecco Qui. "I just showed up Saturday [May 27] morning and there was a note on the door."
Most students are unaware of the incident.
"I'm surprised," said Michalina Goral, a junior majoring in information science and technology. "I have been on campus, but I haven't heard anything."
"A lot of clubs meet at Ecco Qui; they should've made a public announcement," said Radha Bakshi, a sophomore majoring in biomedical engineering. "They probably have more things to worry about than displacing Drexel clubs."
The fire at Ecco Qui is the fourth to occur on campus in the past month.
